The DOL is the simplest type of motor starter used to start a 3 phase induction motor. The induction motor is connected across the 3-phase supply directly where the DOL starter applies the full line voltage(starting current) onto the motor terminals.
No damage is done to the motor because the DOL also acts as a protection device and condition monitoring, which prevents the induction motor from damaging.
